Blended Learning

What is blended learning and why would you need to know about it? Well, if you are an educator or a learner, blended learning is the way forward in order to incorporate ICT into the teaching and learning process.

Blended learning is a programme of education where the student learns in part through traditional classroom techniques and part through a digital and online media method of delivering subject content.

Blended learning incorporates the best teaching and learning aspects of both human taught and technology taught processes.

One way of applying the concept of blended learning is to use a flipped class room model.

This is where the following occurs:
  • The educator records and share lectures/lesson outside the classroom.
  • Students watch/listen to the lectures/lesson before attending the class.
  •  Lesson time is dedicated to applied learning activities and tasks which require a higher level of thinking.
  • Students receive the required support and structure from the educator and peers.
  • Students check their understanding and extend their learning outside the classroom by answering online quizzes, etc.
